Monday: Gym, Halloween I will have themed activities for the day. Students are invited to, if they choose, bring part of their costume to school with them (something they can easily put on themselves). After lunch recess they will have an opportunity to put this on on top of the clothes they have worn for the day. No weapons, elaborate make-up, scary costumes, or full face coverings are allowed (a mask may be worn around their neck if it has a tie). Students will not be allowed to change or apply make-up in the washrooms, they need to simply add costume elements in the classroom. Dressing up at all is completely optional. Students may opt instead to wear black and/or orange or their regular clothes. Students who arrive in the morning with what appears to be a costume will be asked to change. I hope that this approach will allow students to share in the joy of dressing up without posing a threat to their costumes or our school washrooms. Happy Halloween! Tuesday: Library, Mme shared her news! Wednesday: VSO field trip. We leave around 10am and are there for the afternoon. Students are to dress up (not a big fancy dress, but preferably no jeans or hoodies). Lunch will be eaten on the bus, so a sandwhich may be a better idea than soup! In Social Studies we have been looking at geography and talking about place. Most students have selected a place in BC that is special to them (somewhere they have been, somewhere they have memories of). I've asked them to write in their blue English notebooks as many details they can about the place (What have they done there? With whom did they go? When was this? Why is this place so great?). I'm hoping parents/guardians can help them generate ideas. Spelling should simply be to student's ability, as we will be translating into French. Due Thursday. p.6-8 of Canada mapping due Friday.
English - 1st side of Spelling lesson 2
South Park's Cops for Cancer fundraiser has begun. A special spelling list has been sent home for students to study. Welcome to Div. 9!
**We do have allergies in the class to peanuts and tree nuts (for a complete list click here). Please try to avoid snacks containing these ingredients. If students do have a snack containing one of these, they have been instructed to tell the teacher.
To do:
Make sure you have an agenda. These are used in class daily and returned home daily. Parents should check and sign agendas every evening and I will sign them every day.
Please bring school supplies Friday September 9th.
Students will need running shoes for gym. The soles should be white or light in colour, not black as this marks the gym floor.
Come to your new outside door every morning and line up. We are on the "dark side" of the school. Div 9 and my name, Mme Newell are in the window.
If students took a photo with a stinger sign over the summer, or would simply like to share a photo of an adventure they had, they are welcome to bring them to school. Printed copies please.
